Additional Curriculum Notes
Prerequisite items in bold are minimum requirements and acceptance is dependent on them.
IB’s refreshed design of the MYP offers greater flexibility in course choice, with only six subjects, the personal project, and CAS required to be eligible for the HCPS IBMYP Certificate.
To be eligible for an IB Diploma in Grade 12, students must complete at least three higher level (HL) programs and three standard level (SL) programs. HL courses are always a two-year program. SL courses may be one or two years. Higher and standard level programs are currently available in IB Diploma subjects as shown.
Course availability is based on student enrollment, requests, and on the requirements outlined by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
In addition to the International Baccalaureate required courses, students must also write and submit a 4,000-word independent research paper (Extended Essay) and meet goals and outcomes of creativity, activity, and service (CAS) in grades 11 and 12.
J. R. Tucker High School Diploma Program also offers a Course Candidate status to students who decide that pursuing the IB Diploma does not meet their educational goals. They may still sit for exams and earn college credit for completion of courses and exams.
